ADMITOLOGIST: A Physician, Usually trained in Internal Medicine who admits patients to the Hospital. Admitologist are special in that they have a strong understanding of the overall healthcare system and how it functions. Admitologists typically work closely with ER physicians, case managers and social workers in a collaborative way in assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the options for patients and their disposition in acute care hospitalists. Admitologists are proficient and efficient in the admitting processes. They complete history taking, review of systems and complete physical exams and develop an assessment and plan justifying why a patient meets or doesn’t meeting inpatient criteria. Admitologists typically consult other specialized physicians and communicate with them developing an overall management plan for the patient. Admitologists sign their patients out to another physician (hospitalist) who will take on the patient in hospital management.
